Monitoring species populations and habitats

Biological monitoring is an elemental aspect that supports the generation of knowledge for the conservation of biodiversity. Knowing about the distribution and abundance of species, the conditions of their habitat, their conservation status and the changes they suffer over time is vital information to be able to plan and have an improved decision-making process.

We target our monitoring program in two directions, the ecology of the species and its habitat, and to measure the outcomes of actions implemented. We aim to learn which conservation actions works better and the effectiveness of such interventions.

This research theme focuses on:
  • Filling knowledge gaps and improving information on threatened species and ecological communities.
  • Improved prediction of species trajectories, movements and use of habitat.
  • Improved adaptative management processes.
Expeditions available:
  • Monitoring the Golden Eagle Territory.
  • Jungle Habitat Monitoring for Tapirs´ Conservation.
