Sustainable Rangeland Management

Livestock grazing worldwide affects land and influence rangeland ecosystems services resulting in changes in the local biodiversity. Often times it is present in critical areas for the conservation of wildlife, producing negative effects on the life cycle of the various species.

Livestock grazing has to be done in a sustainable way in where balancing livestock productivity and biodiversity conservation is elemental to ensure a healthy landscape for all species. Unfortunately, ranchers do not always agree in changing their practices because many of them do not relate the conservation of biodiversity with the production of livestock.

Therefore, it is critical to understand ranchers’ priorities and their vision related to the conservation of nature. As well as current livestock husbandry practices so adequate rangeland management approaches are implemented.

This research theme focuses on:
  • Establish livestock planning models friendly with nature in areas used by the golden eagle.
  • Improve grazing distribution and use to benefit animal production.
  • Understanding and adapting current livestock management approaches.
